WOODS HOME FILM FESTIVAL ELIGIBILITY
  • The annual Woods Hole Film Festival accepts short and feature length narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated films or videos from around the world. New media or multimedia projects will also be considered for the XWhaves event.  The total running time of feature narrative of documentary film must be at least 40 minutes.  The total running time of a short film must be no more than 40 minutes.
  • Submission Requirements: Entry requests must be submitted complete including, preview copy, entry form, fee, and additional materials as set forth in the entry rules and postmarked on or before the deadline date.   An entry submitted without these requirements will be considered incomplete and will not be considered.  A project submitted without an entry fee is not a complete project and will not be eligible for entry into the Festival.
  • Completion Date: Entries must be recent work completed within the previous two calendar years (2006) in order to be considered in competition. Works in progress will be considered for the Festival provided they will be completed no later than July 1, 2008. Works in progress (i.e. interlock, roughcuts) may be screened at the Festival on a limited, non-competitive basis by invitation only. A film completed prior to 2006 may be screened on a non-competitive basis only by invitation only.
  • If accepted, the Festival must receive an optical sound-on-film exhibition print or (for videos) videotape no later than July 15, 2008.  Each screening print must be marked with a return address that is clearly visible on the film/tape and with any special screening instructions.  A tape that is adequately marked will be sent back by the Festival.  A print/tape that is not so marked will be sent back only in a stamped self addressed envelope provided by the filmmaker.
  • Commitment: The filmmaker agrees that if a film is selected for screening, whether in competition or not, the may not be withdrawn from the Festival program.
  • Entries previously submitted to the Woods Hole Film Festival cannot be reconsidered for a competitive screening.
  • Other Festivals: While premieres are preferred, entries that have been shown in other festivals are eligible for submission and competition.
  • The festival will not consider: Commercials or advertisements; commercial reels, educational, industrial, medical or informational films, video or new media games, commercial TV broadcast or webcast, or in video distribution.

Film and Video Formats Accepted:

Submission: All submission preview copies for entry consideration must be on NTSC standard speed VHS videotape or DVD USA Region only. No PAL formats.   
Exhibition: The exhibition (festival screening) formats accepted are: 16mm (optical sound on film), and the following video formats: HDCAM (by special arrangement only) Digibeta, Beta SP, professionally mastered DVD. Other video / digital formats possible but not guaranteed. All film entries must be on reels (not cores) and in appropriate shipping containers. The festival will not accept films shipped on cores. All insurance during shipping will be paid by the filmmaker.
  • Must be English or sub-titled in English.
  • Entrants are responsible for securing, and warrant to have secured all necessary rights / permissions for festival exhibition of each work submitted. The Woods Hole Film Festival is not responsible or financially liable for any and all claims against The Woods Hole Film Festival or filmmaker for rights and permissions.
  • Any awards/prizes will be received by the primary contact (attendance highly encouraged, but optional).
  • Entrants agree to notify the WHFF by mail, fax or email of any address changes.
  • If submitting more than one film, please submit separate packages for each film, including separate video cassettes, and include all items listed above. You may use photocopies of this form as necessary.
  • Right of Participation: Participation in the Festival is based on adherence to the regulations as here set out, the final decisions of Festival programmers and by the rules of the Woods Hole Film Festival.
  • Shipping: Cost of shipping to and from the festival is covered by the entrant. Film prints will be returned by the Festival or its shipping agent against reimbursement according to the sender’s instructions. The costs of transport are the responsibility of the entrant. Shipping must be prepaid. Collect or COD shipments without prior arrangements cannot be accepted. Each film must be properly packaged and marked in English with the title of the entry. Entrant’s identification must be on the case and the tape. Please use only plastic or bubblepack cases when shipping entries. Each film can and/or video cover must include the filmmaker’s contact information.
  • The Festival is only responsible for the costs of storage and insurance while the screening print is in the possession of the Festival. The Festival is not responsible for acts or omissions beyond its control.
