When the curator of The Norman Rockwell Museum
in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, is murdered -- stuck with a harpoon
and holding half a lemon and a can of tuna -- the police desperately
need help with the investigation. They call in Langford Fife
-- Professor of Symbology at Stockbridge Community College and
the son of Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife of Mayberry, North Carolina.
Langford may have received his degree in symbology from a correspondence
course but he insists he's 'just as competent as those high-falutin'
professors from Harvard with their fancy sheepskins from accredited
schools.' With cryptologist Sopha Poisson of the Quebec Secret
Service, Langford sets out to uncover the clues hidden in the
paintings of Norman Rockwell... clues that will lead them to
