The Latent Image Awards are an annual competition of short films by Emerson College students. Latent Image is a student-published film journal at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Since 1989, they have devoted its pages to the medium of film, with criticism, reviews, interviews, and more. They are proud to have published student submissions from universities around the world. The Latent Image organization meets weekly, and all meetings are open to Emerson College undergraduates.

The selection this year ranges from experimental to comid to science fiction. Undergraduate and graduate student filmmakers will be on hand to discuss their films and film education. The screening is presented by Latent Image's ______________________.

JUDGES WRITING AWARD
Out with the Trash (comedy)
directed by Danny Madden, 6 minutes
A quick study break turns into an epic journey to the trash can.

JUDGES EDITING AWARD
The Right to Sing (documentary)
directed by JD Marlow, 4 minutes
Historian Stephen Baird tells the story of his encounters with city laws as a street performer, and
his movement to change them over the last thirty years.

AUDIENCE AWARD
Sut Joong (drama)
directed by Johnson K, Lee, 26 minutes
An urban tale about two parentless siblings, surviving alone in Boston’s Chinatown. One sibling
looks after her younger one, while hiding from him her shady life.

JUDGES ART DIRECTION AWARD
Any Faggot Can Model (experimental)
directed by Ethan Feldbau, 7 minutes
A nightmarish tale of neurotic, teenage sexual angst and fabulous fabrics.

JUDGES CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD
Dopplevision (experimental)
directed by Max Wagenblass, 5 minutes
A brief experiment in vision, perception, and control.

JUDGES INDIVIDUAL ACTING AWARD
Searching For Santa (comedy)
directed by Alexander Modzeleski, 28 minutes
Due to a poorly timed tragedy, Tommy still believes in Santa Claus in high school. This comedy/drama follows his inevitable disappointment, his plunge into depression, and his personal
exile from society.

JUDGES ENSEMBLE ACTING AWARD
Awkward Moments (comedy)
directed by Gabrielle Canton and Sam Molleur, 7 minutes
Viewer discretion advised. This film contains several awkward silences, painfully uncomfortable
conversations, and portrays extremely unnerving situations. Beware, life is awkward.

JUDGES FILM/DIRECTOR AWARD & LATENT IMAGE JURY AWARD
In Dreams (drama/sci-fi)
directed by Lucia Lopez, 19 minutes
A young man becomes addicted to his dreams and begins to neglect his waking life. He falls in
love with the simplicity and perfection of life within his dreams and his growing obsession
eventually leads to harrowing consequences.

* Unfortunately, because of time, the 51 minute Hansel and Gretel by Kal-El Bogdanove which won an award for art direction will not be screened. We regret this omission.
