Blood and the Straw - The Legend of Lucky

A black comedy set in Rural America.  A farmer finds a chicken box which fell from a passing chicken ranch truck.  The little chicken, looking a lot like a young man, is raised by the farm family.  One day a chicken rancher arrives to recover his lost chick-turned-rooster and the young man learns his true heritage and why he has a natural ability to fight.  Perhaps the most unique martial arts film ever produced.

Last Ball

High school is over, and everybody in the small town just up the Hudson from New York City where Jim lives has made plans and moved on -- everybody except Jim. While his buddies head off to one Ivy League college or another, Jim rejects their upwardly-mobile choices and takes a job driving for the local cab company instead, which allows him plenty of free time to hang out, drink with the locals at John's Bar & Grill, and think back on the love affair with a married woman that, for the exquisite moment it lasted, brought passion and meaning to his life.

Mark of the Astro Zombies

Invaders from outer space are up to no good, human villainess and her henchman are up to no good, and the good guys are trying to get a handle on it all. The joy of this film is in its amusing dialog and wonderful cast. Brinke Stevens is pretty as a picture and makes a very warm and appealing heroine. Tura Satan, perhaps best remembered from the cult classic FASTER, PUSSYCAT, KILL, KILL, is a welcome and delightfully wicked "dragon lady" type, whether wielding threatening weapons or slapping the bejeezus out of her dull-witted comic (but dangerous) sidekick, which she does frequently. It’s wonderful to see another cult classic actress, Liz Renay, as the kooky, publicity-seeking "I was attacked by aliens!" gal. And you get a little bonus in this film, too...check out a brief scene by director Mikels himself as a mad, mad, mad scientist who converses with "the head of Dr. De Marco". Lots of laughs!  (www.imdb.com)

Returning Mickey Stern

On an exotic island so close to the Big Apple, Mickey Stern (Joseph Bologna) is about to discover his past in someone else's future.
1950: Mickey Stern (Joshua Fishbein), a wildly naive 17 year old kid, discovers the magical Fire Island for the first time. There, he meets his true love, Leah (Kylie Delre), and courts her. Mickey wants the American Dream - to wear pinstripes as a New York Yankee, to find riches and fame and love, and to fight the "Commies" in Korea. But, their love doesn't overcome everything, and he and Leah go their separate ways. Full of regrets, Mickey finds himself wishing he could turn back time...
FIFTY YEARS LATER: Mickey (Joseph Bologna) still has dreams of playing for the Bronx Bombers and bringing the world's last remaining "Commies" to justice. He returns to Fire Island with his best friend Harry (Tom Bosley), the New York Bagel Czar. Mickey discovers that the magic has not left Fire Island. He meets a young woman named Ilana, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Leah. But even more shockingly, he meets a young man who is, quite literally, a 17 year old version of himself.
This is Mickey's chance to right past wrongs, and he has just one week to do it. He teaches Michael how to become a better ball player and how to be a better man. But with slicked-back hair and hormones in maximum overdrive, Michael might not have what it takes to romance Ilana. Ultimately, Mickey discovers that love cannot be forced, it must be earned, and sometimes, love can be found in the strangest of places.

(97 min., 35mm, USA, 2002, Director/producer/script: Michael Prywes, Cast: Joseph Bologna, Tom Bosley, Kylie Delre, Michael Oberlander, Sarah Schoenberg, Kristina Sisco, John Sloan, Connie Stevens, Brett Tabisel, Renee Taylor, and introducing Joshua Fishbein as "M. Stern")

Revolution #9

Life is great for yuppie Jackson and his fiancée Kim. Until objects start moving mysteriously. And sinister emails begin to arrive. And a TV commercial is broadcast with secret messages intended only for Jackson. But are these anomalies really  happening? Or is Jackson imagining it all? This psychological thriller that begins like a conventional suspense film then evolves into a chilling examination of schizophrenia, but this is no sensational or exploitative melodrama. It is a restrained and intense immersion into lives gone haywire. As Jackson's world breaks apart, clever picture effects and sound design carry us along with him into encroaching insanity. While Kim struggles to hold the pieces together, mixed signals allow us to believe with her that everything might turn out okay.

(91 min., 35mm, USA, Director: Tim McCann , Producer: Shannon Goldman, Tim McCann,
Michael Risley, Cast:  Michael Risley, Adrienne Shelley, Spalding Grey, Callie Thorne)
