PEN (Poets/Playwrights, Essayists/Editors, Novelists) New England is an organization of published authors, aspiring writers, and all who love the written word. The Panelists:
Hortense Gerardo is a writer and anthropologist, whose plays have been featured locally and nationally. Her screenplay, FOURHAND, won Best Film, Cape Cod Section of the 2008 Woods Hole Film Festival, Best Feature Film Audience Choice Award and Best Feature Film Panelists Choice Award in the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre 2009 Filmmaker Takeover. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild and the International Center for Women Playwrights.
George Harrar is the author of over a half dozen books; his short story "The 5:22", which appeared in Best American Short Stories, was made into a short film. His novels include The Wonder Kid (Houghton Mifflin, 2006); The Spinning Man, a philosophical mystery (Putnam, 2003); Not As Crazy As I Seem (Houghton Mifflin, 2003); The Trouble with Jeremy Chance (Milkweed Editions, 2003); Parents Wanted (Milkweed Editions, 2001); and First Tiger (The Permanent Press, 1999). He lives in Wayland, Massachusetts, with his wife, Linda, a documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared on PBS, Discovery, and Turner channels.
Matthew Quinn Martin directed the new short film CELEBRITIES IN DISGRACE, based on a novella by Elizabeth Searle. His screenplay SLINGSHOT was made into a feature film starring Juliana Margulies which premiered at TriBeCa Film Festival and was featured on Access Hollywood. He wrote and directed his own award-winning short, A WALK IN THE PARK; his screenplay for A Very Good Year was presented at FilmFest New Haven. As an actor, he has appeared in continuing roles on LAW & ORDER and FRINGE
Alysia Reiner's short film, SPEED GRIEVING, was featured at NYWIFT's SWAN Day Screening, the Hamptons International Film Festival, The Williamstown Film Festival and the Women with Vision festival among others. Alysia is an award winning actress and producer who has appeared in NY theater and on TV shows such as The Sopranos, Law & Order and 30 Rock.
Taylor Toole is a Cape native and Emerson College graduate whose most recent short film is AFTER WORK. His feature film, MOW CREW, which he wrote and directed, won Best Feature at the Kent Film Festival. Toole's other short films include STANDING UP; he has worked on Project Geenlight and the HBO series Deadwood.
